Working with many e-commerce platforms for over 35 years, I find BigCommerce an excellent fit for small and medium businesses. It provides a good balance between operational cost and flexibility to customize. I recommend it to merchants who need complex product catalogs with multiple category hierarchy levels and custom attributes. We have clients in B2C and B2B spaces. BigCommerce support for B2B is better than other mid-market platforms.

We've built a number of e-commerce sites and I've inherited Bigcommerce sites. Bigcommerce requires coding to really get a design you want. It's not friendly by today's standards at all. I prefer Woocommerce, but Shopify and Squarespace are both better than Bigcommerce.

We launched Rocker Rags on Big Commerce in 2010, when they were a small company. We were one of their first 10,000 customers. Now they're well over 50,000, and we're still with them and quite happy. We recently brought on a new marketing company that wanted, originally, to switch Rocker Rags over to Woo Commerce and Word Press, but after seeing how strong our SEO was, through Big Commerce's integrations for that, they opted to keep us on Big Commerce. Big Commerce offers a fairly straight forward system, and what you have trouble with, they offer 24/7 phone tech support, with a person who is based in Austin, and they're available regardless of what program of theirs you are using. They will always get my support, and I think it's definitely worth you trying them out.

I am very happy with Big Commerce. It is quite robust, and offers many built-in features. In addition, they have excellent, 24-hour phone support.

I use BigCommerce. They have a very robust website and shopping cart. Pretty easy to use once you get used to it. Good customer service. I pay about $325/year which I'm okay with. Nothing per sale.

I'm using Bigcommerce. It's easy to use, very flexible and a perfect complement to a brick and mortar business. I am no webmaster. I'm a DIY trained website designer. I have many years of development history with Homestead. I built a huge site with Sitebuilder Plus. When it came time to upgrade to a responsive website with online sales capabilities, I added Bigcommerce through Homestead. I recommend Bigcommerce for those wanting an online store. Bigcommerce is a big player in this space. I have no experience with the others. Once you develop your website, you will tend to stick with what you know. I operated an online art supply store for 5 years on Big Commerce. It worked as well as most higher priced alternatives. Although you have to build your own store it will handle any number of skus and variations. It has an easy to use interface so no coding knowledge is required. Although I sold the business the store is still online at ArtPlace.com with BigCommerce years later.

I have a BigCommerce Partner account and although I could make good money just by recommending the platform to my customers, I don't always do it.

Although easy to use, stable and pretty well supported, BigCommerce, just like any other hosted CRM and/or eCommerce solution significantly limits especially the SEO/SEM and scalability of the website. The entrepreneur doesn't actually own the website when using BigCommerce or similar and the data is hosted on servers he does not control.

Considering the average lifetime of a website design (2-3 years), using BigCommerce becomes more expensive than developing your own website using one of the platforms mentioned below.

My advice would be to use BigCommerce (or similar) to test the product/market (keeping the budget low) and then - once the idea was validated - migrate to a stand-alone platform (such as WooCommerce, Magento, OpenCart, Prestashop, etc.), before the online business grows too much (at this point migrating may get expensive).

I am a BigCommerce Partner and have been working with the company for 10 years as a designer and developer.

There are really only TWO huge reasons I love BigCommerce. Well, to be honest, there are many others. The platform is so ridiculously loaded with features, I struggle to isolate just two!

A primary feature, according to my clients, is the BigCommerce Support Team that provides comfort and business confidence. Great customer support is #1 for all store owners!
