I actually prefer a phone call, literally just answered one as I was opening this discussion to respond. Emails and drop-ins to chats seem very impersonal and canned to me and are easy for me to ignore; but if you get on the phone and leave a compelling voicemail or have a really good, professional way of grabbing my attention if I pick up, I'll likely give you the opportunity to pitch.
